Study: Long Work Hours Dangerous For Heart

posted by Bill Strange -

A new study says working long hours can raise the risk of a common and potentially dangerous irregular heart rhythm condition.  British researchers found that people who work 55 hours a week or more were about 40% more likely to develop atrial fibrillation than people who worked 35 to 40 hours a week. Atrial fibrillation contributes to stroke, heart failure, and stroke-related dementia.  The scientists studied more than 85,000 people in the U.K. and three other European countries for more than ten years.

The study was published in Friday's edition of the "European Health Journal."
